Economic Justice Committee
The Economic Justice representatives engage in several fundraising efforts that contribute to improving economic life locally, nationally, and worldwide and work closely with New England Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty.
Chair: Mary Fulton
This annual fundraiser is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC). Donations from our congregation help UUSC and partners respond to extraordinary human rights challenges of today, address root causes of injustice, and build capacity to respond to future crises.
Chair: Pam Brightman
Every Sunday following the service, Equal Exchange Products are for sale in the Oneto Room, during social hour. Coffee, tea, and chocolate bars from worker-owned farmer cooperatives in Latin America, Africa and Asia help build a more ethical and sustainable trade system.
Chair: Mary Alice Kimball
Share the Plate is a congregational fundraising effort to support non-profit organizations in our local community that enhance programs meeting our own Social Justice goals. Special collections for extraordinary disasters and emergencies are included.
Plate donations for two “first Sunday of the month” collections are shared with the congregation 50/50, with half shared with a local 501(c)3 non profit group. Often a representative of the receiving group educates the congregation during the service about their work.
Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale, RI.
